Moving to Alanya changes the way you use a foreign driving licence. A licence that is valid for a short visit may not be enough for someone who stays longer. The rule applies to the driver, not to the car's licence plate, so check both issues separately.
Know the time limit
NVİ states that foreign nationals may use a driving licence issued abroad for up to six months in Türkiye. The same official FAQ gives a different period for Turkish citizens holding a foreign licence. Do not assume that a tourist visa, residence permit or vehicle customs allowance automatically extends the driving-licence period.
If you will remain in Türkiye beyond the applicable period, check whether your licence can be exchanged and what evidence is required. NVİ's appointment FAQ lists documents that can include the original licence, a certified Turkish translation, identity documents, education information, a health report and a photograph. Requirements can vary, so use the current NVİ exchange guidance and appointment service rather than an old checklist.
Plan before you need to drive
Check that your licence covers the vehicle class you intend to use and remains valid in its issuing country. Keep a copy of the official exchange instructions and book an appointment early if needed. If you are unsure whether your country has a recognition or exchange arrangement, ask NVİ before buying or importing a vehicle.
