The date stamped in your travel calendar is not a substitute for the vehicle's customs deadline. A person's permission to remain in Türkiye and a vehicle's temporary-import period can be different. Record the deadline that applies to the car and check it through the official service.
Set reminders and keep proof
Use the Ministry of Trade's Foreign-Plated Vehicle Transactions service to review vehicle information and available declarations. Keep the entry paperwork, registration and insurance together. If your residence permit changes, you plan to leave without the vehicle, or the car is held under a special temporary-entry document, ask customs how that affects the deadline before making travel arrangements.
Check charges before reaching the border
The Ministry's FAQ says unpaid traffic penalties and road, bridge or tunnel toll charges on foreign-plated vehicles must be settled before the vehicle can leave Türkiye. Search the official vehicle service for outstanding items, pay through the channel it identifies and save receipts. Do not wait until the last day, when a correction or payment confirmation may take time.
If you will leave Türkiye without the car, do not simply leave it parked and assume your own absence pauses its period. Ask the customs office about the declaration or custody process and keep proof of the step you complete. This practical checklist complements our articles on entry eligibility and insurance cover.
